How do RAM Cichlids, Angelfish, and African Dwarf Frogs feel about fresh water aquarium salt? 10 points tobest?
I am thinking about getting one of these three things, in a pair if needed. And i was curious as to how these fish/frogs felt about fresh Water Aquarium salt? and any other basic info i need to know about them if i do get them? please help i want to be a responsible aquarist and know before i get them
All of these are purely fresh water fish and do not need salt. Most of the benefits people think they are getting from salt are theoretic and mythical, or only necessary in situations that call for it. At the same time it’s known well enough that they can tolerate some salt, but I’ve run healthy and stable tanks for many years without using any salt, just with proper care.
Ram cichlids and Angel cichlids can be a little tricky. Make sure you know what kind of tank and environment they need to do well before you get into them. They can be very rewarding to keep but also easy to mess up. Learn more about them at sites like thekrib.com and cichlid-forum.com. Rams can be kept solo, but will only shine as mated pairs. Angels are ideally kept in a big group in a big tank, but also do great as a mated pair and will do fine solo – but kept in unmated pairs or very small groups can lead to aggression issues. Angel fish get to a pretty big size and a pair needs a decent sized tank of 30 or 40 gallons to grow into, but the little Ram pair will do well in a tank as small as 15 gallons. Rams are very delicate though, just a warning – you might be better off looking at a tougher dwarf cichlid like Apistogramma or Kribensis, or if you can find them the Keyhole cichlid is a great one.
